The first big step of obedience every new believer in Jesus should take is being baptized by immersion in water. We have been baptized by the spirit and are now baptized in water as a means to cleanse us and to outwardly express our inward change. Christ was baptized by John the Baptist to fulfill righteousness; he also commanded his disciples to baptize new believers. This we do as an act of faith and obedience to Christ.
(Matthew 28:19-20)
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Baby dedications are beautiful services in which the parents present their young children to God before the church and vow to raise their children in the ways of the Lord. Until the age of accountability (which could vary per child - typically at the age of 12) the child is therefore covered by the parents until they are old enough to make a decision for Christ and accept the free gift of salvation on their own. While there are no particular scriptures that specifically mention baby dedication, we can look to a few scriptures that give the implication of it. Namely, the story of Hannah in 1 Samuel chapter one, gives presumably the best depiction of Baby Dedication:
1 Samuel 1:11
And she made a vow, saying, “LORD Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.”
